Collection: British Fishes Part 1
Offered for sale is an antique hand-colored engraving from Ichthyology, British Fishes, Part I edited by Sir William Jardine and published between 1841 and 1843. Each engraving is approximately 4” by 6” and comes matted and mounted on acid free archival materials.
The illustrations for British Fishes were created by James Hope Stewart, a Scottish natural history artist. Stewart was known for his detailed and vibrant watercolors, brought life to Jardine's The Naturalist's Library series. Stewart's artistry played a significant role in making Jardine's publications visually captivating and scientifically valuable.
